Honorees

Take Steps Honorees understand first-hand how difficult — and empowering — it can be to live with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Honored Heroes share their stories to let other patients know they are not alone on their journeys — because no one should face the challenges and uncertainty of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in isolation. Through their stories, Honorees raise awareness of these diseases, raise funds in support of the Foundation’s mission, and inspire hope in those living with IBD.

Todd & Ansley Evans

This year Tennessee Take Steps has the privilege of honoring the father-daughter duo, Todd and Ansley Evans. The Evans family has been dedicated to funding research to find a cure for IBD. Through their journies battling Crohn's, they have been inspired to improve the lives of those affected by this disease.

Born and raised in Nashville TN, Todd has been an integral member of the Nashville community. He has dedicated his life to serving and improving the community. His journey with Crohn's began in 1997 after struggling with stomach issues for most of his life.

"Walking out of that appointment with a diagnosis of Crohn’s disease is where my journey began. I was somewhat relieved I knew what was going on with my body but also had no idea how life-altering this disease would be for me."

Despite his diagnosis and the many ups and downs that come with Crohn's, he has not let that hold him back from doing all he can for those around him.

TODD EVANS

In April of 2022 his daughter, Ansley was diagnosed with Crohn's. With the experience of standing by her father through his journey, she was equipt with the knowledge that most do not have.

"As a 14-year-old Freshman in high school with already so much going on, hearing and accepting this news was something that was going to be a challenge but was something that I was ready to take on and face."

"When the doctors came in and officially diagnosed me with this disease, I was shocked but grateful to know they finally had figured out what was wrong with me. Crohn's Disease was not something I was unfamiliar with. My dad has been struggling with Crohn's Disease since before I was born, and I've watched and helped him through every surgery, every shot, and every appointment just hoping to know that he was doing okay."

She has bravely faced this challenge with hope and grace. Ansley's story has motivated her to advocate to find a cure and improve the lives of those who suffer from IBD.

"With Crohn’s, I have also been able to experience stuff that I would not be able to before. I get to help raise money to help researchers find a cure for Crohn’s disease, and I get to share my story to others and prove that living with a chronic disease is not something that defines you and the life that you want to live."
