About Take Steps

What is Take Steps?

Coping with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease or IBD) can be an extremely challenging and isolating journey. That is why the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation created Take Steps, a walk experience that brings communities together in a fun, family-friendly and supportive atmosphere that lets patients know they’re not alone.

The Foundation’s largest fundraising campaign, Take Steps helps to accelerate the progress of breakthrough research and supports critical patient programs.

NEW in 2023: Join us at the newly reimagined Take Steps event experience in a city near you! Featuring a new look, new feel, and an incredible new event experience that brings the IBD patient journey to life, we can't wait to welcome you to Take Steps. Whether you're a patient, caregiver, or supporter, together we will celebrate and honor your unique journey.

The map below represents the many possible roads and hurdles that IBD patients can experience. At Take Steps, we’ll ask you to mark where you are in your journey, and see the markers of other patients. Join us as, together, we head to the top of Mt. Remission and our ultimate goal: cures for Crohn’s disease & ulcerative colitis.

Steps Towards Cures

When you raise funds for Take Steps, you're helping the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation accelerate research toward cures for IBD and provide programs and resources to improve the quality of life for IBD patients. In 2021 alone, the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation invested $63 million in our mission, the most in Foundation history. Of this amount, more than $32 million was directed to 200+ research projects, bringing the number of projects we have supported since our inception to more than 2,500 and our total investment in research to $446 million.
