Barrett is so excited to be the Pediatric Honoree for the 2024 Charlotte Take Steps Walk! We hope you will consider supporting and being part of our team Barrett's Buddies.
Barrett was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at age 10, after several months of various symptoms, illness, and weight loss. Our family had never known much about Crohn’s, but we have set out to learn as much as we can and meet others with IBD experience and expertise.
Thankfully Barrett has responded well to treatments so far and is living a normal 6th grade life, enjoying school, time with family and friends, and sports like tennis and basketball. But bi-weekly injections, doctor’s appointments, and tests and bloodwork are reminders that she will always need to be vigilant about her health and watch out for flare-ups.
Barrett tries not to worry too much about these things, because she is fortunate to receive amazing care at the Levine Children’s IBD Clinic and have the strong support of family and friends. We are hopeful that through the work of the Foundation and ongoing research, there will be improved treatments and even cures for Barrett and others with IBD.
